Mission Statement

The Peace and Education Coalition Alternative High School Program provides a non-traditional educational opportunity for out-of-school youth, ages 16-21, who desire to achieve a high school diploma and a new chance to fully participate in the economic and social spheres of life through guidance and support. We believe that all students deserve to be surrounded by adults who believe in their unlimited, personal potential. We believe that every student deserves and educational environment that is welcoming and safe. We believe that every child deserves rich educational, career, and social-emotional guidance and support in order to define the pathways to the options he or she chooses.

Welcome Message

Welcome to the new Peace and Education Coalition Alternative High School Program website! We are in the midst of big changes at PEC-ASP. We have just completed the move out of our original Dugan building and are busy preparing our Second Chance and Sinclair Campuses for the 2009-2010 school year. Everywhere you look, you'll see changes. New staff, new teachers, new spaces, new classes, and new programs. If you are a student, or parent of a student, looking for an alternative high school setting, we're glad you found us. We are here to help provide guidance and support to students who have been out of school, but wish to return and earn their Chicago Public Schools high school diploma. We are currently accepting applications from out-of-school youth between the ages of 16-21.

Our Second Chance Campus has five state of the art classrooms (and teachers!), cafeteria, office spaces, and an outdoor basketball and picnic area. It also boasts an infant and toddler daycare center operated by Catholic Charities. We are hopeful that before the end of the 2009-2010 school year, we will be able to announce the opening of a new Pre-K room for our students with children between the ages of 3-5. Our Sinclair Campus has 7 creative and colorful classrooms (and teachers!), cafeteria, a beautiful gymnasium with a small weight room area, large common areas, and a computer lab. Although Sinclair does not have on-site daycare, we have developed partnerships with local daycare centers that are just blocks away.
